How to mulch with the Novamulch agricultural mulching machine

In joint work between the Artinova, Paperior and Maquinaria Agrícola Lose teams, we have designed a specific machine for mulch with Novamulch paper. This system, instead of pulling the paper, applies it directly to the soil, making the work of mulching large crops much easier.

If we have a conventional plastic quilting machine, we have to take into account that we will have to modify its configuration to place Novamulch paper. It is essential that we eliminate as much of the tension that we will put on the paper when applying it. Both the draft traction and that exerted by the side wheels. All these aspects are already preconfigured in the Novamulch quilting machine.

How to mulch with Nova Mulch biodegradable paper with a machine.

1. Prepare the ground

First we must prepare the ground, for example, using a milling machine, although as we will see later the paper mulch machine works well on any type of ground.
It is important not to apply the paper immediately after fertilizing the land with organic or animal fertilizer, as this could cause early deterioration of the material.

2. Irrigation system

For marking and subsequent planting we can use different techniques.

On the one hand, we can do it directly with a coupling on the page that will allow us to leave marks every X centimeters, defined and without irregularities.

Another technique can be with the planter, in this case we can safely use this tool to plant directly.

Lastly, we can do it manually. In this case, X or Y-shaped cuts are recommended that do not leave very irregular cuts on the paper and contribute to its strength against the wind.

4. Placing the paper roll in the machine

The paper roll must be centered, but without contact with the stops, leaving a couple of fingers, 3 to 4 cm, between the roll and the stop. This will give the coil a slight play that will make it easier to apply it on the ground.

5. Machine configuration and customization

As it is machinery that is manufactured to order, we can specify our needs when placing the order. What irrigation system will we use ribbon or hose, for example, whether or not we need wheels to mark the paper, etc.

6. Greenhouse application

Applying the biodegradable NovaMulch paper mulch in the greenhouse with a machine is much simpler since it would allow us to place it without burying the sides due to the absence of wind. In this case we can take advantage of this circumstance to have more planting area.

7. Application in different terrains

The machine is effective for different types of terrain, as you can see in the images, it has demonstrated its operation on different terrains. Sandy, very worked and some full of clods that are undoubtedly the most complicated.

8. Removal or disposal of paper mulch

Once we have harvested our harvest, a great advantage of paper is that we do not need to remove it, dispose of it or take it anywhere. We can simply crush the remains that we have on the ground with the passing of the machinery; in a few weeks they will degrade until they disappear.
