Conventional agricultural plastics and biodegradable plastics lack these characteristics, as they require removal at the end of each cycle and leave polluting residues that harm not only the soil but also the quality of nutrients. All of this impacts and contaminates our future agricultural projects.

By using our Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch, you won’t need to invest in and commit your initial budget to removing this material at the end of each growing cycle, as it’s a 100% organic product. Therefore, you can shred it directly and incorporate it into the soil. You’ll see that it will be completely integrated within a few weeks.

This is not the case with conventional agricultural plastics and biodegradable plastic, as they require us to invest in their removal after harvesting, and in the case of biodegradable plastic, we will need to complete the biodegradation process (since it is a partially bio-based product). Both products will leave plastic residue in the soil, and our savings and management will be diminished and minimized.

Unlike agricultural plastics or biodegradable plastics, our Novamulch paper is a permanent intervener and monitor of pests and weeds such as this one: Cyperus Rotundus or Sedge.

Thanks to this high-tech design, Novamulch paper does not allow openings or holes due to the appearance of the Sedge, whereas plastics are easily perforated and in these cases Cyperus Rotundus grows, develops rapidly, and its invasive nature manages to destroy not only the onion but any crop in which we allow it to appear.

1. Application system.

We can extend it with an agricultural plastic extrusion machine, or with machines specifically designed to install Novamulch paper.

Both systems are very easy to implement, and in the case of planting onions in small gardens, we can extend it manually.

Once installed, don’t forget to make the holes, keeping the recommended distances, to place the onion seedlings or seeds.

2. Seeding

Another very beneficial use for our Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch is to make small bowls or pouches filled with substrate for planting seeds. These pouches are then placed in individual holes of the mulch spread in the garden. This is an essential way to protect and ensure the healthy development of each onion seed.

We can also place each seed directly inside the hole of the Novamulch paper spread, and it also offers us security and protection for proper vegetative development.

3. Proper irrigation of the onion.

As we have explained on this page, we recommend drip irrigation using tapes and placing them at the recommended distances to avoid waterlogging in specific areas.

This way we avoid humidity that is favorable for the appearance of fungi and weeds, and we prevent the appearance of pests and diseases typical of these saturated and inadequate habitats.

We can easily adapt our Novamulch paper according to the climate in which we are going to plant onions in the garden.

In other words, if our temperatures are warm or tend towards dryness and cracking of the soil, it is advisable to place the paper with the light brown side towards the surface, to avoid increasing heat levels.

On the other hand, the natural transpiration of this material will allow adequate oxygenation and moisture to the root system of our onion crop.
